Attack on Islamabad Court Kills 11, Injures 30

Gunmen using automatic weapons and hand grenades attacked a local court in Islamabad Monday morning, leaving at least 11 people dead and 30 injured.

“There was a blast, then there was a lot of gunfire,” said Faisal Ali, a businessman who witnessed the attack. “Gunmen were spraying bullets at everyone.”

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the deed. While Pakistani Taliban fighters stage frequent attacks around the country, they are uncommon in the capital.

When they arrived at the scene, commandos of the capital’s anti-terrorism unit exchanged fire with the attackers and rescued people stranded in the court. Two lawyers and a judge are reportedly among the fatalities.
