Speaking to CNN and ITV in New Father, New Hope, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, talked passionately of his passion for Africa and his quest to protect endangered species, reports the Telegraph. The Duke, who is a frequent visitor to Africa, said that becoming a father had made him even more eager to help endangered species. “The wildlife is incredibly vulnerable and I feel a real protective instinct, more so now that I am a father, which is why I get emotional about it,” he said. “You want to stand up for what is very vulnerable and needs protecting.”

His wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, was shown discussing her husband’s unbridled passion for wildlife with guests at a conservation charity event – the couple’s first formal appearance since the birth of their son, reports the Telegraph.

When asked about conservation by one of the guests, the Duchess of Cambridge replied: “I’m just learning all the time and I think George will be too. I think he’ll be following in his father’s footsteps.”

The Duke also spoke openly about fatherhood and his baby son, Prince George. “He’s a little fighter,” he said according to the Telegraph. “He wriggles around quite a lot. And he doesn’t want to go to sleep that much, which is a little bit of a problem.”
