Thirteen people died Sunday during gunfights in a Mexican city close to the Texas border.
Eight men were killed in a shootout with the Mexican Marines in Matamoros, and four men and one woman died in an earlier armed altercation, Reuters reports.
Drug cartels in the area have given the location a reputation as one of the most lawless regions in Mexico. About 80,000 people have died due to Mexican gang violence since 2007.
