Disgraced Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was more eager to discuss his weight issues than his drinking and drug abuse on a Today Show interview that aired Tuesday morning, which the hosts said left them “speechless.”
When NBC’s Matt Lauer asked Ford about “bringing disgrace” to his public office, Ford admitted “I’m not perfect,” but said he’s still a good public servant. Ford also questioned the video that police and news reports have said depict him smoking crack cocaine because, he said, “I can’t remember it. I was very, very inebriated.”
In the last two weeks, Ford has publicly acknowledged and apologized for smoking crack, made lewd comments about oral sex, and knocked over a city councilwoman as lawmakers stripped him of many of his mayoral powers.
Ford said in the latest interview that he’s not in a drugs or alcohol treatment program, although “I have a weight issue, I’ve been training every day.”
Even as local lawmakers look to diminish his influence, Ford said he’s look toward a reelection campaign next year.
“They’re not going to find another Rob Ford,” he said.
