In the latest twist in the News of the World phone-hacking trial, one of the paper’s former reporters told the court that he recorded a message from film actress Sienna Miller for James Bond star Daniel Craig that suggested Miller was cheating on then-boyfriend and actor Jude Law with Craig.
Miller’s message to Craig said: “Hi, it’s me. I can’t speak, I’m at the Groucho with Jude. I love you,” the BBC reported.
During the trial, Law said that he confronted Craig in 2005 about his affair with his then-fiancée Miller.
“We had known each other many, many years,” the 41-year-old said. “So the conversation took on all sorts of turns.”
At the time of the alleged affair with Miller, Craig was also in a relationship, with actress Satsuki Mitchell. News of Miller’s affair with Craig broke in October 2005 when the now defunct NotW tabloid published a story with the headline “Sienna cheats on Jude,” according to UPI.
Craig is now married to actress Rachel Weisz and Miller tied the knot to actor Tom Sturridge.
During the proceedings, Dan Evans, the journalist who reported the story, told the court that he played the message for NotW’s former editor Andy Coulson and other senior members of the newsroom.
Coulson, along with Rebekah Brooks, the former chief executive of News International, Rupert Murdoch’s British newspaper arm, are on trial for a number of offenses resulting from phone hacking investigations.
Evans also told the court that he hacked phones more than a thousand times when he was employed there back in 2005, the Guardian reported.
