The Austrian Cardinal Hans Hermann Groer was removed from his position as Archbishop of Vienna in 1995 following allegations he sexually abused numerous schoolboys and monks in his career. Groer, who died in 2003, denied the allegations throughout, but was compelled to forfeit his ecclesiastical titles and privileges.
