Sun Yat-sen, considered the founder of modern China, sought to end imperial rule in the early 20th century and conducted his revolutionary activities from Hong Kong — where he received his secondary and university education. Sun founded the Revive China Society in Hong Kong which contributed to the 1911 Xinhai Revolution that overthrew the Qing — China’s last imperial dynasty. It was also in Hong Kong where Sun ordered the launch of the first newspaper that published anti-Qing commentaries and where he raised funds for the revolution.
