A school of piranha attacked bathers in an Argentina river Wednesday, dismembering children’s digits and injuring 70 people, the Associated Press reports.
A lifeguard at the river where bathers were taking refuge from the summer heat told the AP that the fish were “a type of piranha, big, voracious and with sharp teeth that can really bite.”
The beach was cleared after the attacks, but bathers returned within a half-hour amid 100-degree temperatures.
