French comedian Dieudonne M’bala M’bala calls his inverted Nazi salute an “anti-establishment” gesture. Now establishment figures are gesturing back with city-wide bans on the performer.
BBC reports that the cities of Bourdeaux, Marseille, Nantes and Tours have cancelled the comic’s performances, which have included derisory comments about Holocaust survivors, Nazi gas chambers and Jews in general. President Francoise Hollande has urged other cities to follow suit.
Dieudonne has six convictions for hate speech against Jews. The comic maintains he’s not anti-Semitic — with a straight face.
