One of the suspected authors of the deadly twin bomb attacks in the Russian city of Volgograd was killed in a police operation, Russian media reported Wednesday, potentially easing security concerns ahead of the Sochi Olympics.
The man was reportedly killed along with several others in a shootout in a town in the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, reports CNN, a hub for a radical Islamist insurgency blamed for earlier terror attacks in Russia. One accomplice in the bombing was also arrested.
The December bombing of the city’s main train station and a trolley bus killed 34 people and injured 100, raising concerns about safety ahead of the Sochi Winter Olympics.
