Richard Stengel is the former managing editor of TIME. Stengel collaborated with Nelson Mandela on Mandela’s best-selling 1993 autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom. As a senior writer for TIME he covered both the 1996 and 1988 Presidential campaigns. In 1999 he served as a senior adviser and chief speechwriter for presidential candidate Bill Bradley. Stengel has written several books including Mandela’s Way, January Sun and You’re Too Kind.
